My Story
Former cruise ship crewmember with a passion for hidden gems and places that tell a story.
Travel Style
During the three years I spent as an excursions director on riverboats, I got a front-row seat to the most historic ports across America. From villages of 59 to cities of three million, I learned to seek out the hidden gems: local haunts that showcase the unique history and culture of the destination. Although I'm a planner and nothing makes me happier than organizing my to-do list, I always make sure to leave a little space in my itineraries for spontaneous exploration — bonus points if it leads to shopping and ice cream!

A Weekend in New Orleans' Warehouse District
When I worked on cruise ships, I spent as many as three days a week in New Orleans, to the point where it felt like I was there more than I was at my actual home. One of the world's great melting pots, New Orleans means something different to everyone. For some, it's the party capital of the United States, a favored place for bachelorette parties, spring breaks and just letting loose. For others, it's a cultural capital associated with the likes of Louis Armstrong, Kate Chopin and Emeril Lagasse. For cruise ship officers, we just wanted some peace and quiet. We found it in the Warehouse District. Tucked between uptown and downtown, the Warehouse District is a hidden gem of New Orleans, a local spot where life is a little bit slower, more relaxed, where historic commercial buildings cradle today's up-and-comers. Here you'll find the spot where neighborhood bars and cobblestone streets meet award-winning restaurants, nationally known stores and the number one attraction in New Orleans.

Tuscaloosa: An Alumna's Guide to the Land of the Tide
There’s just something about Tuscaloosa. Perched on the banks of a river and nestled under a canopy of foliage that gave it the nickname “Druid City,” maybe it’s the place. Or maybe it’s the history, reminders of ancient and more modern eras existing side-by-side with cutting-edge technology at Mercedes-Benz and the University of Alabama. Or it could be the people: college students, lifelong residents, visitors who came for a football game once and just never left. There’s an endurance here, a sense of optimism, a togetherness that rallies the city during tough times and lifts it even higher during good times. Whether you’re a fan cheering on the Crimson Tide at Bryant-Denny Stadium, a high schooler looking for your perfect college match or just passing through, here are some must-sees for your time in Tuscaloosa.
