Things to do in San Diego

The San Diego Zoo is a must-do for your visit!
San Diego Zoo: The San Diego Zoo isn’t just any zoo—it’s one of the most renowned in the world. Set within the lush Balboa Park, it’s home to over 12,000 animals and pioneers open-air, cageless habitats that mimic natural ecosystems. From giant pandas to skyfari gondolas with treetop views, it’s a one-of-a-kind wildlife experience. You could easily spend an entire day here!
Pro tip: Start with the bus tour (it’s included with your ticket) and sit on the right-hand side—that’s the side most of the animals are on.
Hotel Del Coronado: If you don’t stay here (which I recommend you do), it’s a hotel worth visiting! Steeped in history and oceanfront elegance, the Hotel del Coronado is a Southern California icon. Opened in 1888, this Victorian beachfront resort has hosted presidents, royalty, and Hollywood legends—and was even the filming location for Some Like It Hot starring Marilyn Monroe. With its signature red turrets, sweeping ocean views, and a blend of historic charm and modern luxury, “The Del” offers a one-of-a-kind experience. Bonus: they also just completed a $550 million renovation, and offer daily tours of the property.
Sunset cruise: There’s no better way to soak in San Diego’s coastal beauty than from the water—and a sunset cruise delivers it in unforgettable fashion. As the sun dips behind the Pacific, you’ll get front-row views of the skyline, Coronado Bridge, and Naval ships bathed in golden light. Whether you’re sipping champagne on a sailboat or relaxing on a harbor yacht, the breeze, colors, and cityscape create a magical, picture-perfect moment. It’s romantic, peaceful, and uniquely San Diego—ideal for couples or anyone wanting to see the city from a new perspective.
Petco Park: More than a baseball stadium—Petco Park is a showcase of San Diego culture. With views of the San Diego Bay and skyline, local craft beer on tap, and a park-like atmosphere built into the outfield, it's one of the most beautiful and fan-friendly stadiums in Major League Baseball. Even non-sports fans will appreciate the vibe. If the Padres aren’t at home during your visit, they offer daily tours of the stadium.
USS Midway: The USS Midway Museum is like stepping onto a floating city at sea. As one of America’s longest-serving aircraft carriers, the Midway offers a hands-on journey through naval history—right in the heart of San Diego’s harbor. You can explore the flight deck, sit in real cockpits, walk through crew quarters, and hear firsthand stories from veteran docents. With over 30 restored aircraft and incredible views of the bay, it’s an unforgettable experience that blends military heritage, engineering marvel, and immersive storytelling—all uniquely San Diego.
La Jolla: Just a short drive from downtown San Diego, La Jolla feels like a coastal escape within the city. Nicknamed "The Jewel of San Diego," this seaside village is famous for its dramatic cliffs, upscale charm, and stunning ocean views. You can watch seals and sea lions lounging at La Jolla Cove (but be warned of the smell!), kayak through sea caves, explore tide pools, or stroll through boutique shops and art galleries. With world-class dining, scenic hikes, and some of the region’s most beautiful beaches, La Jolla offers a perfect mix of natural beauty and relaxed sophistication. I also recommend checking out Sunny Jim’s Sea Cave while you’re there.
Places to eat & drink in San Diego

Views from The Del restaurants.
San Diego’s food scene is as diverse and laid-back as the city itself, blending coastal flavors with global influence. Check out some of these San Diego Restaurants:
Las Cuatro Milpas (Barrio Logan): A no-frills institution for handmade tortillas and authentic Mexican comfort food.
Lucha Libre Taco Shop (Mission Hills): Famous for creative tacos, flashy decor, and its “Surfin’ California” burrito.
Oscar’s Mexican Seafood (multiple locations): Legendary for fish tacos, ceviche, and smoked fish.
Nobu: For a less uniquely San Diego but worthy dining experience, visit World-renowned Japanese chef Nobu Matsuhisa's newest location, now open at ‘The Del.’ Reservations required!
Need to know
The best time to visit San Diego for ideal weather is late spring through early fall. May through October offers the most consistently pleasant conditions. The best time overall is September or October due to warm temperatures, minimal crowds, very little rain, and the ocean being the warmest. This makes it perfect for beach days or water activities.
