Advisor - Bratislava, Slovakia: An Underrated European Destination
Curator’s statement

When traveling from Hungary to the Czech Republic, we were fortunate to spend time in Bratislava, Slovakia. What was meant to be a pit stop turned out to be a lovely surprise we all loved and were thankful to experience. I adored this Slovakian capital’s charming pedestrian streets, affordable cuisine, and friendly people. Bratislava is an underrated European city that everyone should add to their European destination list.

Things to do in Bratislava

Go to the Observation Deck at UFO Tower and get a lovely view of Bratislava.

Walk the grounds of Bratislava Castle (Bratislavský hrad) and explore the reconstructed Baroque castle. From here, you also get a gorgeous panoramic view of Bratislava and the Danube River.

Watch the sunset from Most SNP (UFO Tower) Observation deck. The unique flying saucer–shaped tower has an observation deck and a bar at the top, where you can sip and see the sun go down. I found the prices to be very reasonable, and the view is gorgeous.

Take a leisurely stroll around Old Town. Bratsilava is not a place to rush through, and I enjoyed meandering and exploring Old Town. Take note of important landmarks like Michael’s Gate, Maximilian's fountain, Primacial Palace (Primaciálny palác), and Hlavné námestie.

Enjoy a live DJ at Brixton House. Whether you go here for food or drinks, this place will guarantee a fun DJ set with great vibes.

Visit The Blue Church - Church of St. Elizabeth Farský kostol sv. Alžbety (Modrý kostolík). This baby blue nouveau-style church is definitely a contrast to the rest of Bratislava. On our walk to this church, I also really enjoyed the street art along the way.

Places to eat & drink in Bratislava

Sip on colorful and creative cocktails at Urban House.

Urban House: A lively and beautiful restaurant serving fun cocktails. You’ll find yourself entertained with the vibrant decor and expansive menu.

Brixton House: Similar to Urban House, this restaurant has a great global menu to match the energetic decor. Bonus points to the place for having the best music.

Bratislava Flagship Restaurant: Set inside an ornate theater, this expansive restaurant offers traditional Slovak food and their in-house brews.

17’s BAR: This bar serves the best garlic soup I’ve ever tasted. Also, say yes to the bread bowl. Great hospitality as well!

Zil Verne: A very quaint beer pub with a wide variety of brews from small local breweries. They have the option for flights, so you can try a little bit of everything.

Need to know

Bratislava is a great destination to add to your itinerary when traveling from Budapest to Prague. You’ll find the prices to be very fair, and the hospitality is warm and welcoming.

Try to stay in Old Town so that you are within walking distance to many restaurants and bars.

Slovakia is part of the European Union (EU), and the currency is the euro.
